In this project, my partner and I were tasked with redesigning the museum that sits on the site of the LaBrea Tar Pits, as well as the surrounding landscape, with a focus on the assembly of systems that goes into a complex program. In addition to the traditional programmatic pieces of a museum (exhibits, theaters, etc.), the brief for the project also called for the design of lab spaces for the researchers that work 362 days out of the year, a film production studio, storage for the specimen found on site, and areas where guests can view the tar pits as well as the research taking place.
